Season 2, Episode 9: Code STEMI, Code Stroke, Code Sepsis
In this episode, Elizabeth (former code-team nurse) takes the lead in discussing what’s important for new nurses to know about STEMI, stroke, and sepsis. We discuss nursing care and the big three – strokes, STEMI’s, and sepsis. Please note, this episode was recorded in January 2017, and the latest evidence at that time. The best practices surrounding treatment of these evolve continually and we encourage you to ensure you’re referring to the latest evidence and facility policy while providing patient care.

I work in a subacute and we do transfer patients to the hospital due to a possible MI. We have orders for nitro prn but we don’t have orders to give chewable aspirin. I’ve always wondered why not. My preceptor has said they ask if they received any when receiving report but we don’t have any orders for that in our facility. Just makes me want to ask the MD for a standing order for chewable aspirin. They are on vents so we have the O2 and nitro but no aspirin and or course no morphine which I know that should be given at the ER.
